People may complain about their “resting bitch face” or commiserate over the presumed friendliness of “resting nice face,” but California Governor Gavin Newsom has a unique problem all his own: resting supervillain face. 

Rumors began swirling on social media earlier this week, claiming that the Democratic lawmaker — who has recently cozied up with conservative influencers like Charlie Kirk and denounced trans athletes in women’s sports — may be eying a Republican presidential bid in 2028. In addition to speculation about Newsom’s potential trajectory and party switch, one question remained for many Americans: Why does he look like that?

“Is there a picture of him where he looks, I don’t know, not like an evil con man?” asked one Twitter while another likened Newsom to “a villain in a Disney movie where the protagonist is a dog.”

That said, Newsom’s cartoonishly evil aura wasn’t the only thing to feel the fire of Twitter’s hot seat this week. Other insults from the last seven days were equally scathing, including burns about an extremely British seal, who really fought in the “Battle of Mid” and those who resemble Willem Dafoe.
